Daniel SilvaSoftware that keeps running when the network doesn't.

Software & Systems Engineer · Real-Time and Industrial IoT

I design and ship the software industrial operations depend on: real-time telemetry, networked hardware control, and systems that keep working when the network does not. Five years, four production systems, ~3,000 commits.

Why hire Daniel Silva?

Measurable results in production systems, not demos.

1–10 ms

Real-time latency

Replaced HTTP polling with a full-duplex WebSocket architecture: from 200–500 ms down to 1–10 ms and up to −95% bandwidth.

77%

Sole architect

Of 681 commits in the industrial hardware-control system: 5 years, 398 files, version 12 in real field use.

100%

Offline operation

Offline-first ecosystem with bidirectional cloud↔local sync: the plant works with no internet and reconciles when it returns.

DropAudio CCS

120+verified reviews from real customers

The problem
An audio distributor in Venezuela sold through WhatsApp and spreadsheets: no browsable catalog, prices in three currencies that change daily, and deliveries coordinated by hand.
What I built
A single Nuxt 3 and Supabase app covering the public store and the admin panel: a 3-step headphone recommender, a technical comparator, checkout in USDT, Zinli and Pago Móvil with live BCV rates, inventory, per-km deliveries and push alerts.
The result
The store runs every day. If Supabase goes down, the backup catalog keeps selling and checkout still builds the order over WhatsApp.
  • 19 models in the catalog
  • Writes locked down with RLS and is_admin()
  • Delivery reminders via pg_cron and Web Push
  • Nuxt 3
  • Supabase
  • PostgreSQL
  • Tailwind
  • Vercel

Internal tool with local AI

DropAudio Reel Studio

2 h15 minof editing per reel

The problem
Every reel for the store meant manually reviewing all the phone footage to find usable takes. About two hours per piece.
What I built
A desktop app that transcribes with faster-whisper, describes and scores each take with vision models running on the same machine, writes the script and delivers the assembled 1080×1920 CapCut project.
The result
Editing drops to about 15 minutes, mostly unattended. Footage never leaves the computer.
  • Static frames skipped before any model call
  • Resumable analysis: a crash costs one file, not the run
  • Rule-based script fallback if the model fails
  • Python
  • faster-whisper
  • Ollama
  • pyCapCut
  • ffmpeg

Industrial system for a client

Industrial monitoring with networked camera control

5 yearsrunning on the plant floor, with no on-site tech support

The problem
Operating industrial cameras split across two networked machines, somewhere nobody can go restart anything if it hangs.
What I built
A Python desktop app where the same executable takes its role on each machine with no manual setup, transfers images in chunks and puts an explicit timeout on every network boundary.
The result
A powered-off camera no longer freezes the interface. The system has been in real use for five years and ships with a versioned installer.
  • Automatic role at startup: server or client
  • Chunked image transfer with reassembly
  • Automated tests with pytest
  • Python
  • PyQt5
  • OpenCV

Video stabilization

2 enfoquesclassic and deep learning, comparable side by side

The problem
Handheld phone video shakes. My undergraduate thesis proposed AI-predicted adaptive weights, but the original code only ran from the command line and did not implement them.
What I built
Two stabilizers: one using a mesh, optical flow and interpolation, with a network predicting its weights and a before/after web UI; and one that estimates camera motion with a distilled PWC-Net and smooths the path with quadratic programming.
The result
Results are measured with MSE, RMSE, PSNR and SSIM, and the GPU version stabilizes new videos without retraining.

  • Real ownership, not scattered tickets
  • Weekly demo and written report
  • Overlapping hours with the Americas
  • Scalable to full-time

Hourly: $35–65 USD depending on the work · Fixed-scope quotes available · Paid via Deel, Payoneer or crypto

Systems in production

Four systems built in parallel over five years. Client work under confidentiality: I describe architecture and decisions, never business data.

Industrial IoT hardware control

Principal author and architect

Desktop application to operate industrial inspection cameras from two networked machines in a coordinated way, with no technical support present in the field.

  • 524 of 681 commits (77%)
  • 398 files · 214k+ lines
  • v12 in real field use
  • Dual-PC architecture: the same executable relaunches itself and assumes its role (server or client) with zero manual setup by the operator.
  • Chunked image transfer with reassembly and connection-drop handling; explicit timeouts at every network boundary so a powered-off camera never freezes the UI.
  • Interactive maps with blitting on matplotlib embedded in Qt: smooth zoom and pan over live geometric data.
  • Refactored from monolith to modular library without stopping delivery, with a pytest/pytest-qt suite and a versioned Windows installer.
